This seems to be a solution to the problem of not being near a computer to post something really important to your blog — right now.
Yahoo, Google and several others have connected IVRS (Interactive Voice Response Services) proxies to Live Journal and other Blogging systems for years. It’s a really neat trick and provides an extra interface into “The Conversation”.
I just can’t get over feeling like I’m listening to someone else’s voice mail.
I joined Feedburner last night partially out of procrastination, partially out of an interest to learn more about blogging and syndication and all of the rest that I’m currently in the dark about.
My Feedburner feed can be found at feed://feeds.feedburner.com/Jennlog. You can subscribe to it by clicking on the little icon somewhere near the top right of this page. I think the little counter underneath displays how many people have subscribed. Cool huh?

I was listening to my squeezebox this afternoon and I thought it might be neat if I had a widget that displayed the album cover and assorted details of the song I was listening to at that moment. So I wrote one.
My Squeezebox “What’s Playing” widget sits inside the Sidebar Widgets pluggin for WordPress. The slimserver-based plugin that feeds the metadata to the widget is from regoroad.com.
The update on my transmission troubles is that my Subaru’s transmission was not ambitious enough to achieve goocity, it was a damaged fluid hose (missed from the various inspections and rounds of repairs) that was pushed up against the fan housing. I have my car back, but it is making weird noises and feels like it is bumping against something whenever I turn now.
Update: I removed the album art as there appears to be a multifile upload bug in the regoroad plugin and its ftp option appears to be too slow for most artwork. I’ve reverted to text only for now
I’ve decided that my personalization and customization of this blog shall be an incremental, iterative effort. Further to this, my shiny new blog philosophy will have me fill the default layout with goodies before I actually start looking for a design I like.
(er… kind of like the area around my livingroom TV with 3-4 RF/IR bugs, a bunch of devices and a full 16-port Gigabit Ethernet switch that screams networked media. But, I’ll probably find a blog design I like before finding an entertainment center or home theater organizer that works for networked devices.)
So, in moving towards my goal, yesterday I added the Wordpress Sidebar Widgets plugin from Automattic, as it seems to be the defacto doodad display platform.
Then, last night, five minutes before bed, I had an idea to make a widget to include my backyard camera within the sidebar. The camera widget is based on the google search example Automattic includes, and took three of those five minutes to make and add.
I think I am going to enjoy blogging.
